Accreditations

Certification is a quality assurance process carried out based on specific, predetermined, internationally accepted, and publicly disclosed quantitative and qualitative criteria and indicators, aligned with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015).

The purpose of certification is to ensure the quality of Higher Education, as well as the effectiveness and transparency of the overall operation of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

The periodic certification of the quality of HEIs concerns the certification of both the internal quality assurance system developed by the University of Crete and the study programs and three cycles of studies provided by its academic units.

Certification includes: (a) internal evaluation by the University of Crete, through its Quality Assurance Unit (QAU), and (b) external evaluation by a committee of independent experts.

Lifelong learning programs, distance education programs, e-learning programs, as well as collaborative programs with other educational or research institutions in Greece or abroad, are also subject to certification.

New study programs are certified before their operation begins.

The process focuses on improving the quality and effectiveness of the Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) and the Study Programs.
