QAU (MODIP)

A few words about our unit...

MODIP was initially established on January 22, 2009. By decision No. 16643/2024 (Government Gazette 4619/vol. B'/08.08.2024) of the Rector’s Council acting as the Board of Administration, the establishment and operation of MODIP were formalized under the current legislative framework, in implementation of Article 215 of Law 4957/2022, as amended and in force.

Its operation and activities are governed by:
a) The framework set by regulatory and legislative provisions, the provisions of the Internal Quality Assurance System, and the existing legislation;
b) The Internal Regulations of the University of Crete; and
c) The provisions of MODIP’s Internal Regulations (Government Gazette 482/vol. B'/10.02.2025).

Its administrative structure is regulated by the Organization of the University of Crete.

MODIP constitutes an administrative unit of the University of Crete, operating at the level of an autonomous Department, headquartered in Heraklion, and supervised by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Lifelong Learning, and Research Policy. It is functionally independent from other academic and administrative units.

MODIP’s functional independence is based on the principle of avoiding conflicts of interest between evaluators and those being evaluated. For this reason, it is not hierarchically subordinate to other organizational units nor does it hold authority over them.

MODIP develops collaborative relationships, and its compliance monitoring is grounded in:

• The quality standards set by the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE);
• The existing institutional framework; and
• The Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015).
